We’ve all heard the phrase, “there’s no ‘I’ in team.” This is meant to remind us, it’s about the team as a whole and each individual’s commitment to the team. I realized the same is true for Group Fitness. There’s no “I” in Group. Group Fitness mirrors many of the same benefits one might get from being a part of a team. This is why many individuals are drawn to and stick with Group Fitness workouts.
Room to Grow and Practice– The saying is practice makes perfect. Well, there’s nothing perfect going on here in Group Fitness, but we do want you to practice with us. We create an environment that allows all levels to participate. This is whether you’re new to exercise or you’ve been exercising for years. At LCRAC we have our Smart Start Program. The program encourages you to find growth within the class setting, at your own pace.
External Motivation– This is motivation that comes from outside of the individual. In Group Fitness not only does this come from your instructor, but your fellow participants. We do get loud. There are lots of “whoo hoo’s” and “you can do it!” Our reasons for being in the class may all be different, but we all have the common goal to make it through to the end.
Camaraderie- Building that mutual trust and friendship with fellow participants. Your fellow members become your peeps!
Accountability- I love when I hear fellow participants ask someone, “Where have you been?” or “Is everything okay? I’ve missed you.” This isn’t because we’re nosy or we are trying to lay on guilt. But we genuinely care about our teammate. There is the flip side, where as a participant you may feel accountability to a class, group or certain people and this can positively aid in your fitness journey.
Social-Yes, it’s social. We talk before class, in class and after class, and that’s okay. We wear costumes, we play crazy music and silly games. Our goal is to create a fun, safe, exercise environment. It’s one of our Club’s Core Values.
Make Exercise Fun– WHAT? Exercise can be fun? Yes. This is what helps us get through those workouts together.
You May Push Yourself Harder– a little healthy competition isn’t a bad thing.
